Asphalt shingles are the most common residential roofing material in North Texas. Pineapple Roofing is a GAF Certified and IKO Certified contractor, and we install and replace shingle roofs on homes across the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Types of asphalt shingles
- Architectural (dimensional) shingles. Thicker, layered shingles with a textured look. They are the most common choice for new roofs today.
- Three-tab shingles. A flatter, simpler design. You will still see them on older homes.
- Impact-rated shingles. Shingles tested for impact resistance. Ratings run from Class 1 to Class 4, with Class 4 the highest. A higher rating does not mean a roof cannot be damaged.
What a shingle roof is made of
A shingle roof is a system, not just shingles. It includes the roof deck, underlayment, flashing at valleys and walls, drip edge, the shingles themselves, and ventilation. A good installation gets every layer right, and a roof is only as strong as the weakest detail.
How Texas weather affects shingles
Heat ages shingles from above and from below, which is why attic ventilation matters. Hail can bruise the shingle mat beneath the granules, and strong wind can lift and crease the tabs. After a storm, damage often cannot be seen from the ground. See what to do after you notice possible storm damage.
Repair or replace?
A few damaged shingles can often be repaired. A roof with widespread wear, curling, granule loss or storm damage may need replacement. We will tell you which one the evidence supports. See how to compare repair and replacement options.
Our process
- An inspection with photographs of every slope.
- A written report that explains what we found.
- A written scope that lists the materials and the work.
- Installation, then a final walkthrough and cleanup.
