TPO is one of the most common roofing systems for flat and low-slope commercial buildings in North Texas. Pineapple Roofing installs and repairs TPO roofs, and every project begins with an inspection of the existing roof.

What is TPO roofing?

TPO stands for thermoplastic olefin. It is a single-ply roofing membrane, a flexible sheet that covers the roof in one layer. The sheets are joined at the seams with heat, which forms a continuous waterproof surface. TPO is typically white or light-colored.

Why building owners choose TPO

How a TPO roof is installed

The membrane can be mechanically fastened, fully adhered or held in place with ballast, depending on the building and the roof deck. The seams, edges and flashing at walls, curbs and equipment are where most problems start, so those details deserve the most attention.

TPO repair and maintenance

Many TPO roofs can be repaired rather than replaced. Common repairs include re-welding seams, patching punctures, and re-sealing flashing around penetrations. A regular inspection can catch small problems before they let water into the building.

Frequently asked questions

Is TPO the right choice for my building?

It suits many flat and low-slope roofs, but the right system depends on the building, its use and the condition of the deck. An inspection answers that.

Can a TPO roof be repaired instead of replaced?

Often, yes. It depends on the age and condition of the membrane and the extent of the damage.

What color is TPO?

Usually white or light gray, because of the reflective surface. Other colors are available from some manufacturers.
